In this video and post you will get Uncle's guide to Volley's and smashes. Smashes are like the equivalent of the slam dunk in Pickleball. When you get a juicy lob I salivate to not only smash, but smash in style.
Fundamentals are key though. You want to make sure your volley's are sound. Short punch strokes and adjusting the volley based on the height of the ball. For the smash an early set up and get yourself in position an make sure you make contact at the apex and pronate your wrist in the end to give it a nice snap.
As I've played for pickleball I realized that you can get away with more wristy and creative volley's at the kitchen. It's sometimes an advantage to use more topspin or roll volleys rather than underspin as tennis players are traditionally taught. However, for drop volleys this is where the underspin is a better choice.
Another tip I was give was also to get back to the ready position with the paddle in front of you and remaining bouncy on your feet ready to move into either direction.
